School visits to Clipper fleet

In small groups and togged up with life jackets the children were shown around the boats by volunteers from the Clipper 07-08 crew.  During the tour around the boats the children had a go at some of the physical tasks on board such as grinding winches and pumping the heads.  At the end of their boat tours they had an opportunity to ask questions and each of the schools presented their boats with a special mascot who will join the crew on their race ahead.

The Clipper Race offers a fantastic opportunity for children to learn more about geography, marine life, different cultures and the sport of sailing.  When the new website goes live, in a couple of days time, schools will be able to log on and follow the fleet as they race around the world.  Special Clipper education packs will also be available to download with lots of nautical puzzles and activities to enable children to find out more about the race.
