Pressure is building in Liverpool for the start of the Clipper Round the World Race

The fleet of 68 foot ocean race yachts are all proudly sporting their new liveries in the city’s Albert Dock, where they were visited by Liverpool Council Leader Warren Bradley, on Thursday. The crew of Liverpool 08 hosted a reception onboard the Tall Ship Mercedes in the Indian summer afternoon sunshine, at which they were presented with their smart crew uniform, a gift from the city council.

The Mersey dockside is already becoming frantic with crew continuing final race preparations, hosting leaving parties and well wishers coming into the city to wave friends and relations off on Sunday.

Last minute victuals are being shopped for on Friday, after which the crew quarter masters are being treated to a whisky tasting hosted by Glasgow Scotland With Style’s sponsor Benromach distillery.

Clipper 10, the final yacht of the fleet to be named, in this international event is being officially named this afternoon in a special ceremony at Albert Dock. While tomorrow, Jamaica and Qingdao will be similarly celebrated, ahead of the official start on Sunday.
