Jamaica arrives in La Rochelle after medivac drama

19 September 2007

Jamaica crew have arrived in La Rochelle

JamaicaSkipper Simon Bradley and the crew of Jamaica arrived in La Rochelle at 2215 local time (2015 GMT) on Wednesday. The team has motored from the Cornish coast after evacuating a crew member with injuries on Tuesday morning. Arriving just in the nick of time to make the lock in, the crew are looking forward to a few days in La Rochelle before the start of Race 2 to Salvador on Sunday 23 September.
Simon said: ‘It’s been a difficult few days and everyone is looking forward to a bit of a rest. We’re just glad to finally be here in La Rochelle, but we are looking forward to going racing again this weekend.’
The rest of the fleet is continuing to race until midnight GMT when the race will end and take a position for their position at that time. With some of the positions remaining very tight, the eight teams will be giving it everything they’ve got during these final few hours of Race 1.
Earlier this evening Hull & Humber stormed to victory when they crossed the finish line at 1956 local time (1756 GMT). Skipper Danny Watson and his crew crossed the line at La Rochelle more than 50 miles ahead of their closest rival, Liverpool 08. Hull & Humber’s win in their debut Clipper Race follows their first place finish in the North Sea Race for the Wilberforce Cup from Rotterdam to Hull during training.
