Channel 4 to broadcast one-hour Clipper 07-08 TV special
05 November 2008
Now there’s another chance for you to relive the highs and lows of the Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race – and see what YOU could be doing this time next year – as Channel 4 prepares to broadcast a special one-hour documentary.
Twelve months ago Race 3 of the Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race was developing into quite the battle in the South Atlantic. A few days after leaving Salvador da Bahia in Brazil on 24 October Hull & Humber had had to evacuate a sick crew member with the help of the Brazilian Navy. The crew discovered a year ago today that the Race Committee had awarded them a four-hour time penalty for not returning to where they had stopped racing before resuming the race to Durban. It would ultimately cost them a place on the podium in South Africa. The crew of westernaustralia2011.com were celebrating the news Perth had won their bid to stage the 2011 ISAF World Sailing Championships. As the fleet made a significant dive south towards the Roaring Forties onboard Nova Scotia they had seen their first albatross and the crew of Qingdao were working hard to regain the lead they’d held for the last eight days having been overtaken overnight by a newly invigorated New York team.
All that in just 24 hours on the Clipper 07-08 Race.
The one-hour programme follows the crews from the start in September 2007 as they get to grips with the rigours of life at sea as they race across five oceans, calling into 14 ports on six continents before their emotional and triumphant arrival back in Liverpool at the end of the 35,000-mile race.
The programme will be broadcast in the UK on Channel 4 on Sunday 16 November from 7.35-8.30am (Video Plus+ 9457535 if you want to record it!) and an hour later on Channel 4+1.
Fox Sports 3 in Australia will broadcast the documentary on 22 November from 1700 – 1800. (Check local listings for your time zone.)
